Charlene Jones is a Manchester-based writer and director. Having written and directed films including Henceforth (2017), Late Nights (2019), and Before I Go To Sleep (2021), Charlene is undoubtedly a successful young filmmaker. Due to this, she has been a part of this year's BFI Weekender - an event which aims to showcase the talents of filmmakers from working class backgrounds. In this interview, Charlene talks to us about entering the film industry and her creative process, as well as giving us insight into what she’d like to achieve next in her filmmaking career.

Monet Morgan is a London-born filmmaker who currently focuses on making short films. After graduating from university, Monet began freelancing for brands, weddings and events, while always keeping her writing spirit alive by coming up with scripts and developing new, innovative ideas for her filmmaking. Recently, her short film Wooly Hair was selected at the BAFTA qualifying Aesthetica Short Film Festival. Due to her successes, Monet is part of this years’ BFI Weekender - a weekend dedicated to celebrating the best working class talent in filmmaking today.

Femspectives 2021: Dreaming While Black
Dreaming While Black, the short film programme curated by Tanatsei Gambura went live last weekend at the Femspectives festival in Glasgow and there's just one word to describe what went down and that word is dreamy. The week-long screening of selected films was a beyond refreshing collection of short movies tackling the themes of dreams, identity, culture and history, all from a black perspective.

Glasgow Short Film Festival 2021 Review
In March our writers attended the Glasgow Short Film Festival, which was entirely online, and watched a wide range of different films by female and non-binary filmmakers. Some films provided an exploration of lockdown and pandemic themes with new programmes added called No New Normal, Big Dog Energy and Locked Down to reflect on the strange last year and, while other films explored more timeless and ongoing issues, there were a few that were pure escapism.
