Hello November

It’s been a couple of months since we have given you our recommendations but we are back! After the second edition of Women X and a short break for our team, we are raring to go and ready with tons of suggestions of what you can check out this November, so there may be no company update from us this month, but look out for a fun little special update from our founder Caris Rianne later this month on our 8th birthday!

TV Shows

Squid Game - Netflix

Squid Game - Netflix
First off, if you haven’t heard of this, where have you been and are you off the grid? New sensation Squid Game is a South Korean TV show streaming on Netflix and has truly taken over everything and everyone. The show is a survival drama and we follow various contestants who compete in a sadistic, deadly game to win a huge amount of money. Both Caris and I really got into it though and we’re still not sure how we feel about the ending!

Narcos: Mexico - Netflix
The third and final season of Narcos: Mexico is set to return on 5 November. Set in the 1980s, the show adapts and explores the true story of the Guadalajara cartel. As a long time Narcos fan, Neha is both happy to see it return and sad to know it’s going to be coming to an end. You can catch all previous seasons on Netflix now.

Vigil - BBC iPlayer

Vigil - BBC iPlayer
If you fancy a tense BBC drama then look no further! Vigil received fantastic reviews and once you watch the show, it’s clear to see why, especially with a cast featuring actors such as Suranne Jones, Rose Leslie and Martin Compston. Set mainly on a submarine, the show follows DCI Amy Silva as she investigates a death on board the vessel. You can catch up on BBC iPlayer now.

Selling Sunset - Netflix
Season 4 of everyone’s favourite real estate reality show is coming to Netflix on November 24 and Neha is extremely excited, especially as the release date has coincided with her birthday - it’s fate! She is mostly looking foward to seeing how Jason and Chrishell became an item and if Davina ever sold the $75 million dollar house…

Cowboy Bebop - Netflix

Cowboy Bebop - Netflix
A real #StarringJohnCho show drops on the 19 November on Netflix and Neha is super looking forward to it! The show is a live-action remake of a Japanese anime show of the same name from 1998. Cowboy Bebop is a sci-fi about bounty hunters chasing criminals across space which sounds like a great time!

Succession - Sky Atlantic
The majority of the RP team are obsessed with the super popular drama Succession and is it any wonder why! The show is a huge hit and we are so ready for the Roy family to be back gracing our screens. Desiree describes it as one of the best TV shows ever made and you can catch the newest season airing now on Sky Atlantic.

Dr. Death - Starzplay
Ashton has previously recommended the podcast of Dr. Death and she’s back to tell you to watch the TV show! The fab cast of this crime drama includes Christian Slater and AnnaSophia Robb, and it’s great to see the story adapted for the screen.

Midnight Mass - Netflix

Midnight Mass - Netflix
We asked Caris and Courtney to share a few words on the new horror tale from Mike Flanagan for this months recommendations, but then the girls got into a big debate and eventually it was decided that they’re going to do a podcast on it instead, because they liked it that much it got too intense to just get a few words, so if that’s not an endorsement….

Joe Pera Talks With You - HBO Max
If you’re looking for a new comedy show, Joe Pera Talks With You has a new season coming out on November 7. It’s one of Courtney’s favourites as it reminds her of home and is her ultimate comfort show.

Guilt - BBC
BBC Scotland's series Guilt is back for a second season and you can catch both of them on BBC iPlayer. Maddy really enjoys it - it’s a very satisfying thriller and dark comedy with a cast that includes great actors such as Line of Duty’s Mark Bonnar.

Films

Petite Maman - In Cinemas

Leeds International Film Festival (LIFF) - 3-18 Nov
LIFF is back and we are super excited for it here at Rianne Pictures! The programme has a great range of films, including some big hitters as well as obscure hidden gems. There’s too much good stuff to shout out with the four strands plus short film competitions so we highly recommend checking out their programme, which is screening in venues around Leeds with some films playing online too.

Petite Maman - In cinemas
Celine Sciamma has done it again with her latest masterpiece that is Petite Maman. It’s a very quiet gem of a film with beautifully crafted scenes that will make you laugh, cry, and smile with pure warmth in your heart. Sciamma delicately captures a child’s experience of grief and has made a tender and magical film that will stay with you after watching it. She truly is a master of portraying emotions and the young sisters who play the main characters are brilliant actresses, especially considering their age! You can catch it in cinemas from November 19 (or at LIFF before that!).

House of Gucci - In cinemas

House of Gucci - In cinemas
When Alina says she has watched this trailer a million times, she means it okay (so much so she’s now reciting “Father, Son, House of Gucci” along with Lady Gaga’s character). Ridley Scott’s House of Gucci is set to release on 26 November in the UK and this is a highly anticipated film for many. Joining Lady Gaga in the cast for this crime thriller is Salma Hayek, Adam Driver, and Al Pacino.

In God We Lust - Wondery

Podcasts

In God We Lust - Wondery
Ashton famously loves a scandal and here’s another of her current favourite podcasts exploring one! In God We Lust covers the story of a famous evangelical college president who had a long-term threesome with a pool guy! The hosts, Brooke Siffrinn and Aricia Skidmore-Williams, are hilarious and they’ve feature some really interesting interviews too.

Books

Real Life - Brandon Taylor

Real Life - Brandon Taylor
This has been on my radar for a fair few months now and I finally got round to reading it. Real Life by Brandon Taylor is a fantastic book which explores themes of race, sexuality, grief, and mental illness. The book follows Wallace at a Midwestern university over the course of a weekend, as he grapples with microaggressions, complexities of friendships and relationships, and difficulties he faces within himself. I found it to be a bit of a slow start, but there were scenes of agonisingly realistic tension and the characters were brilliantly written. It also delved into feelings around bodies and there’s a specific page written about this that I haven’t been able to stop thinking about.

The Last House on Needless Street by Catriona Ward
If you want a bit more of a mysterious book to keep you hooked, The Last House on Needless Street by Catriona Ward might take your fancy. It’s a great horror/thriller novel full of suspense, finishing with a heartbreaking twist that you don’t see coming. Ashton particularly loved how nothing was as it seemed - this story will definitely keep you guessing!

Solar Power - Lorde

Music

Hey Tori - Cherym
A local (to Lauren) Northern Ireland band called Cherym have released an EP called Hey Tori. Lauren is loving it at the minute and describes it as “if Best Coast and Blink 182 had a baby”. The stand out track is the fantastic We’re Just Friends but the whole EP is definitely worth adding to your most recent playlist.

Solar Power - Lorde
Summer may be very much over but this album keeps it going in my mind! Lorde’s third album Solar Power is filled with mellow, chilled out songs that are perfect to throw on when you’re missing the feeling of the warm sun on your skin. My personal favourites are The Path, Secrets From a Girl (Who’s Seen it All), Mood Ring, and Dominoes.

Games

LIMBO - Nintendo Switch
If you fancy a dark, slightly creepy yet pretty chill puzzle game then I recommend checking out LIMBO. I played it on Nintendo Switch and enjoyed the simplistic adventure aspects of it as well as the subtly haunting backstory. It’s pretty cheap compared to a lot of games too and definitely worth the money. It’s perfect for curling up with on a dark winter night.

Animal Crossing New Horizons update/Happy Home Paradise DLC - Nintendo Switch
I love Animal Crossing in all it’s iterations, however it has plateaued over the last few months and has lost it’s magic a little. Which is why everyone is so excited for the new updates! Nintendo recently released the trailer for a huge free update which looks amazing and includes improved features and much loved characters from previous games. In addition, they’re also releasing a paid DLC called Happy Home Paradise which looks fantastically fun and offers hours (and hours, and hours!) more fun. These will be released on November 5th and I for one can’t wait!

Do let us know if you have any recommendations for us to check out, we’d love to know what you’ve been enjoying through these tough months. You can keep up with us on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook for our latest updates.

Stay safe, look after each other, and keep well.
