Hello March

Spring is around the corner and we at Rianne Pictures are very much ready for it! As usual, we have our top ten chosen by everyone in the team, including films, tv shows, games and more, plus some wonderful picks in our Nostalgia Nook. Read on for some recommendations to get you through March. There’s no note from Caris this month as she is busy with baby Rianne, but don’t forget submissions for our upcoming third Women X Film Festival are open! You can submit your short film via Filmfreeway here and we have free entry for North East filmmakers!

Petite Maman - MUBI

Top Ten

1. Petite Maman - MUBI
An absolute cinematic gem of 2021, Petite Maman is Céline Sciamma’s latest film which deals with childhood and grief in a very poignant and delicate way. This beautiful film is now on MUBI. Our team love it - hear all the reasons why in our recent podcast episode!

Killing Eve - BBC

2. Finding Quantum Quest
Another month, another great podcast rec from Ashton! This time, she’s suggesting you check out Finding Quantum Quest. It’s about a man who heard about a NASA-funded film starring Chris Pine, Sandra Oh, Samuel L. Jackson (and many more) that showed in one cinema before disappearing forever. His goal? To find it again!

3. Killing Eve final season - BBC
It’s here! The final season of Killing Eve has arrived and we, like most fans out there, are not prepared for it to end. Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer are immense in this show, which is arguably one of the best dramas in recent years. This is not one to miss so if you’re not yet caught up, then definitely get back on it before the new season ends.

BFI Flare: London LGBTQIA+ Film Festival - 16-27 March

4. Crash - Charli XCX
Not long now til we can listen to Charli XCX’s new album! Crash will be released on 18th March and Lilia is very hyped about checking out the new tracks, some of which feature fellow amazing artists Rina Sawayama and Christine and the Queens. If you want even more Charli in your life, our next recommendation is definitely worth a read…

5. BFI Flare: London LGBTQIA+ Film Festival - 16-27 March
BFI Flare is back from the 16-27 March, showcasing new queer features + shorts along with networking events and industry sessions. The Hearts strand in particular looks amazing, plus there will be screenings of the DIY documentary Charli XCX: Alone Together. Even more excitingly, our very own RP team member Lilia is currently working on the 2022 edition!

Bless the Daughter Raised by a Voice in Her Head - Warsan Shire

6. Upload season 2 - Amazon Prime
From 11 March you can start season 2 of Upload over on Amazon Prime. This sci-fi comedy show is underrated gold and deserves much more praise and attention than it receives. Neha is ready to throw herself in head first and, in her own words, is “ready for this to be my personality for the next six months”.

7. Bless the Daughter Raised by a Voice in Her Head - Warsan Shire
The super talented Warsan Shire has her debut full-length poetry collection coming out on 10 March! Bless the Daughter Raised by a Voice in Her Head promises to be an outstanding collection of poems and Jade is particularly looking forward to diving in.

8. Peaky Blinders final season - BBC
So many amazing shows seem to be coming back to our screens at the moment and Peaky Blinders is no exception. The final season of the show started airing at the end of February so it’s available now for you to watch. If you aren’t already on the bandwagon of this fantastic period crime drama, we recommend getting onto it. The whole series has a vast cast brimming with talent, including Cillian Murphy, Sophie Rundle, and the late, great Helen McCrory.

Paris, 13th District - In cinemas

9. Paris, 13th District - In cinemas
Many of our team have either been loving this or waiting to love this beautiful film, written by Céline Sciamma. Based on short stories by cartoonist Adrian Tomine, the wonderful cast really shine and bring the characters to life. You can catch Paris, 13th District in select cinemas now.

10. Pokémon Legends: Arceus - Nintendo Switch
Lauren and I have been hooked on the latest Pokémon game, Pokémon Legends: Arceus. It’s different to the others in many ways including animation, type of gameplay, the types of locations, setting etc. Particular highlights are the music and the relaxation level compared to the other Pokémon games. I also love the freedom of movement involved, as well as the missions and requests you can complete along the way.

Nostalgia Nook

Bel-Air - Peacock

Bel-Air - Peacock
Neha has been getting very into Bel-Air, a reimagining of the classic show The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. The cast has a range of talent - Jabari Banks and Jimmy Akingbola are particularly great in their roles. It definitely brings that sweet feeling of nostalgia out of you and will make you want to go back and rewatch the original too.

Do let us know if you have any recommendations for us to check out, we’d love to know what you’ve been enjoying too!
