Foxhole Spotlight: Kerenza Qayum

She made... her debut feature film credit with us for her role as Dianna in Demi, where she was praised by reviewers for her emotional and powerful performance. Since then Kerenza Qayum has continued to study acting as well as travel to Australia as part of her university education. Here she speaks to us about her role in Foxhole, this time as the antagonist in the story.

Interview by Zoe Morris.

What attracted you to the story of Foxhole?

Mostly where it was set, cults seem so mysterious and interesting and I thought it'd be really cool to play the part of a member!

Tell us about your character, Verity.

Verity comes across as mean and power hungry, however I think she's really misunderstood. She came into Foxhole the same as the other women, vulnerable and in need of a safe home and I see her actions as results of a insecure girl being manipulated because she wants the promise of being loved and accepted.

What helped you get into character?

One of the ways I got into character was by watching lots of films with characters that reminded me of Verity, mostly girls that came across really in control and desirable but deep down were incredibly insecure and looking for validation of themselves. I took the emotion I felt from these characters to the script and created my version of Verity from it.

How did you find the filming process?

Fun. I love being on set and everyone was so professional and friendly.

TALK TO US ABOUT THE cast OF FOXHOLE?

The cast were really great, everybody's so dedicated and it's really nice to work and learn from so many talented people.

This is the second time Kerenza has worked with director Caris Rianne after their award winning feature film, Demi.

What was it like working with the director and the rest of Rianne Pictures team?

It's always brilliant! Caris is such a great director, she manages to keep you feeling really relaxed and confident whilst still getting the best performance. The whole team at Rianne Pictures are so friendly and helpful, it's so great working with them.

What was your favourite experience of working on Foxhole?

My favourite part of working on Foxhole was probably the first scene I did in costume on set. It was incredible to see the whole thing come to life and see that all the anticipation and planning finally payed off.

What would you want the audience to take away from watching Foxhole?

I want the audience to be excited by Foxhole, get engrossed in the story and enjoy it as much as I did shooting it!

What can we see you in next?

I've been in Australia for the last six months on a study abroad from uni so unfortunately I haven't been able to commit to any new projects. However, I will be back in London auditioning from the beginning of February so will hopefully be on a new project very soon.
